About
We began in 2020 with a vision to continue Edward Lee Kinney’s passion to produce high quality youth rodeos and events in the south to benefit all children by teaching work ethic, sportsmanship and team work along with genuine family time and faith in Jesus. Our overall goal was to have an annual event that helps our youth cowboys and cowgirls along with creating a scholarship fund for graduating seniors! Last year’s rodeo exceeded our expectations with a huge turnout! Contestants from all over Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi participated. We hope to be able to do this again this year by adding money to all events, trophy buckles, and All Around trophy saddles along with adding to the scholarship fund. We will award 2 graduating seniors scholarships. ELK Memorial Rodeo is a non-profit organization.
Edward Lee Kinney was a great friend and mentor to many. He was a loving man who would give you the shirt off his back. He believed in working hard and proved it by example working sun up to sun down providing for his family and helping many. He believed in the old school way of helping others because it was the right thing to do. He and his wife Carolyn built Choupique Rodeo Arena at their home in Choupique, Louisiana in the 1970’s, where kids from all over were welcomed to practice nightly. They also began producing rodeos at Choupique Rodeo arena, such as: Little Britches, Louisiana High School, Louisiana Rodeo Cowboys, Tri-State Rodeos and Choupique Youth Rodeos.
